Terms of Service

Last updated: 20 July 2026

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of IIS Academy (the "Platform"), an online professional-training service operated by Independent Investigation Services ("we", "us" or "our"), a company based in the United Kingdom. Please read these Terms carefully before using the Platform and keep a copy for your records. They form a legally binding agreement between you and us.

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account, enrolling in a course, completing a purchase, or otherwise accessing or using the Platform, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the Platform. If you are using the Platform on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. Description of the service

IIS Academy provides online training in investigation, surveillance and compliance. The service includes video lessons, written and downloadable learning materials, assessments and quizzes, progress tracking, and certificates of completion. Courses are delivered as digital content that is streamed and accessed online. We may update, expand, improve, restructure or discontinue individual courses, lessons or features from time to time to keep our training current and accurate. Access to certain features requires a stable internet connection and a compatible device and browser.

3. Accounts & eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and use the Platform. When you register you must provide accurate, current and complete information, and you agree to keep your account details up to date. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that takes place under your account. You must notify us promptly at support@iisinvestigations.co.uk if you suspect any unauthorised use of your account. Accounts are personal to you: unless we agree otherwise in writing, each account is for a single named individual and must not be shared.

4. Course access & licence

On successful payment, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to access and view the course content you have purchased, solely for your own personal, non-commercial training and professional development. This licence does not transfer any ownership to you. You must not copy, download (except where a download is expressly provided), record, screen-capture, reproduce, republish, redistribute, resell, rent, sub-licence, broadcast, publicly display or otherwise share course materials, videos or assessments with any third party. Access is granted to the enrolled account only, and any access period stated at the point of purchase will apply.

5. Payments, pricing & currency

Course prices are displayed in pounds sterling (GBP) and, where applicable, are inclusive of UK VAT. Payments are processed securely on our behalf by Stripe, our third-party payment provider; by making a payment you also agree to the applicable Stripe terms. We do not receive or store your full card number or security code. Access to a purchased course is granted upon successful confirmation of payment. We may change our prices from time to time, but price changes will not affect courses you have already purchased. You are responsible for any taxes, duties or charges that are not collected by us at checkout.

6. Refunds & cancellation

As a consumer in the UK, you normally have a 14-day "cooling-off" period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 during which you may cancel a purchase and receive a refund. However, our courses are digital content supplied online. By purchasing and starting a course, you expressly request that we begin providing access immediately and you acknowledge that you will lose your 14-day right to cancel once access to the digital content has begun with your consent. Where the right to cancel still applies (for example, if you have not yet accessed the content), please contact us at support@iisinvestigations.co.uk. None of this affects your statutory rights if course content is faulty, not as described or not of satisfactory quality. We may also offer discretionary refunds on a case-by-case basis.

7. Certificates

On successful completion of a course, including any required assessment, we issue a certificate of completion. Each certificate carries a unique certificate number and can be independently verified at any time through our public verification page (the /verify page on IIS Academy), which confirms whether a certificate is valid or has been revoked. A certificate evidences completion of the specific IIS Academy course only. Unless expressly stated otherwise on the relevant course page, our courses and certificates are not a regulated or externally accredited qualification and do not, by themselves, confer any licence, official status or legal right to practise. We may revoke a certificate that was issued in error or obtained in breach of these Terms.

8. Acceptable use & prohibited conduct

You agree that you will not, and will not attempt to:

  • share, sell or transfer your account or login credentials, or allow anyone else to use your access;
  • copy, scrape, mirror, download, record or redistribute course content except where expressly permitted;
  • circumvent, disable or interfere with access controls, security features, digital-rights protections or the payment process;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the Platform;
  • upload or transmit unlawful, infringing, harmful or malicious content, or harass our staff, instructors or other learners; or
  • use the Platform for any unlawful, fraudulent or harmful purpose.

The investigation, surveillance and compliance techniques taught on the Platform are provided for lawful, professional and ethical use only. You are solely responsible for ensuring that any use you make of them complies with all applicable laws and regulations, including data protection law, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and Security Industry Authority licensing requirements where relevant.

9. Intellectual property

All content on the Platform — including videos, text, learning materials, assessments, graphics, logos, and the design and software of the Platform itself — is owned by or licensed to Independent Investigation Services and is protected by copyright, trade mark, database and other intellectual property rights. The licence granted in section 4 does not transfer any of these rights to you. The IIS Academy name and logo are trade marks of Independent Investigation Services and may not be used without our prior written permission.

10. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

The Platform and its content are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Our training is educational and general in nature and does not constitute legal, regulatory or professional advice for any specific matter or case. We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free or free from all security vulnerabilities. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all implied warranties and conditions.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so — this includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for any breach of the statutory rights that you have as a consumer. Subject to that, our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with these Terms and your use of the Platform is limited to the total amount you paid for the course to which the claim relates in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit or business, or for any outcome arising from how you choose to apply the training.

11. Suspension & termination

You may stop using the Platform and close your account at any time by contacting us at support@iisinvestigations.co.uk. We may suspend, restrict or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms, fail to make payment when due, use the Platform unlawfully, or where we are required to do so by law. On termination, the licence granted to you ends and you must stop using the content. Provisions that by their nature are intended to survive termination — including those on intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability and governing law — will continue to apply. Where we terminate your access without cause, we will provide a fair, pro-rata refund for any prepaid, unused period of time-limited access.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to our service, to our business, or to applicable law. When we do, we will post the updated Terms with a revised "Last updated" date, and we will take reasonable steps to notify you of any material changes. Continued use of the Platform after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. The version of the Terms that applies to a purchase is the version in force at the time of that purchase.

13. Governing law & jurisdiction

These Terms, their subject matter and their formation, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them, are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the United Kingdom you may also bring proceedings in your home jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms affects the mandatory consumer-protection rights available to you under the law of your country of residence.
